Cultural Capital
At Haslam Park Primary School, we believe that education is about much more than academic achievement. We are committed to developing the whole child, ensuring that every pupil has the knowledge, skills, experiences and confidence they need to succeed in school and beyond.
What is Cultural Capital?
Cultural capital is the knowledge, experiences, skills and behaviours that children build throughout their lives. These help them to understand the world around them, make informed choices and participate confidently in society.
We recognise that every child comes to school with different experiences. Our role is to provide all children with opportunities to broaden their horizons, discover new interests and experience things they may not otherwise have access to.
Building Cultural Capital
Cultural capital is embedded throughout our curriculum and wider school experiences. Through our teaching, enrichment activities, trips, visitors and wider opportunities, we encourage children to:
Develop confidence, resilience and independence
Discover and nurture their individual talents and interests
Experience and appreciate art, music, culture, sport and literature
Understand and celebrate diversity and different cultures
Develop an understanding of British Values
Learn how to look after their mental health and wellbeing
Develop strong social skills, character and positive attitudes
Understand the wider world and their place within it
Develop the knowledge and skills needed for their future education, careers and lives.
We want our children to leave Haslam Park Primary School with a wealth of experiences, a thirst for learning and the confidence to embrace new opportunities.
A great curriculum builds cultural capital. Through our commitment to providing a rich, broad and ambitious curriculum, we aim to give every child the foundations they need to become confident, respectful, successful and well-rounded individuals.
