Reading Support for Parents

Page Ticker

We use the PageTicker app to record and monitor pupils’ reading across school and at home. When pupils select a new book in school, they add it to the Page Ticker app. You can the record reading at home using the app like you would in a traditional paper reading diary. In school, staff can also record when they have read with you child either individually or as a group. This information supports our ongoing monitoring of reading and helps us promote regular reading both in school and at home. We are able to offer extra support to families who are struggling to hear their children read at home.

If you need support with the app or would like support with reading at home please contact your child’s class teacher.

Reading Workshops

Throughout the year, we hold a number of reading workshops for parents. These offer an opportunity for parents to speak to teachers about their child’s reading, see modelling of reading with a child and hear about how you can support your child best with their reading.

There are two phonics workshops for parents, one in October and another in March to support children with preparing for the Phonics Screening Check.

If you need any support with reading, please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher.

Please see below for guidance on reading with your child.

The Library

The school library, located in the Key Stage Two corridor will be open on a Tuesday after school. 3.15-4pm. Come and visit with your children to read a range of books, choose a book to take home or just relax as a family surrounded by our lovely collection of books!

We recognise that not all families in our school have access to books or the chance to visit the library so please come and see us and enjoy our lovely library!
